Coconut Oil and Skin Tags

I tend to look toward coconut oil when something is out of the ordinary with my body. I have a couple of skin tags that seem to be getting bigger lately but I paid no attention to them. Some of these skin tags I have had for years and they have never bothered me.

A couple of days ago, I woke up with an excruciating pain on my neck. As it turns out, something caught one of my skin tags and it started pulling off, hence the pain. I didn't know what to do. Pulling it off would be very painful. I am not a believer in bandaids and ointment so I did not want to do that. As luck would have it, I happen to remember that coconut oil is antibacterial. I am also of the belief that coconut oil fixes everything so I put coconut oil on my skin tag to see what would happen.

The coconut oil seems to be causing my skin tag to shrink not to mention that the coconut oil stopped the pain almost immediately. I can not wait to see if it eliminates the skin tag. This tag is in a prominent place on my neck so I am very hopeful that it will just go away (as burning it off would surely leave a mark on my neck).

Wish me luck!

Coconut Oil and infections

I have a nasty blister that opened and has become infected. It never gets a chance to heal as I got it from my Zoomer fins that I use for swimming almost every day. This morning, before swimming I put coconut oil on the sore. I can't believe I didn't think to use coconut oil sooner as it:

- should heal the sore
- will help lube up my skin so that the flipper doesn't rub me so much

I almost forgot about the healing benefits of coconut oil until it seemed that the sore would not heal. I can not wait until tomorrow morning. I am certain the coconut oil will semi heal and entirely remove the pain from this very painful sore.

Tonight I am going to try coconut oil on my ingrown toenail!

Coconut Oil and Flu

I have been very conservative in my use of coconut oil because although it is composed of medium chain fatty acids (very healthy and good for you), it is still composed of saturated fat which only inflames inflammatory diseases. I have an inflammatory disease (
www.mylifewithms.com) so I was extremely worried about taking coconut oil.

I have finally figured it out so that I can take the coconut oil and not worry about my MS. Research shows coconut oil in your diet leads to a normalizations of lipids in the body. This:

- boosts the anti-inflammatory properties of the immune system as well as
- helps the liver fight off the affects of alcohol disease

I had trouble before making the connection that coconut oil (which seems to do nothing but help a situation) could be bad for inflammatory conditions. This may actually help me with my multiple sclerosis. I am desperate for anything.

It is also interesting to note that coconut oil has a substance called Monolaurin which is used by our bodies to eliminate such diseases as:

- HIV
- herpes
- flu

Very interesting. Could reaching for coconut oil actually help you this flu season?

Coconut Oil and Sunburns

Okay, a little late in the season...but use this information the next time you go on vacation (just make sure and bring along your coconut oil)!

You know when you stay out in the sun t oo long and you get an awful burn -- you know, where your skin is beet red?

The next time this happens, try a little coconut oil on your burn. within a few minutes you will start to feel some relief. Within a half of an hour, you will be so grateful you applied coconut oil to your burn. Not only will the pain disappear but you will forget all about your sunburn because it will not longer be red after you have applied coconut oil to it! Unbelievable.

I will not ever leave for vacation without the coconut oil. I can't tell you how many times I was on vacation and got a nasty sunburn within the first 48 hours. I spent the rest of the vacation under an umbrella or in pain!

Today when I burned my skin with a hot pan, I should have used coconut oil instead of aloe vera. It probably wouldn't hurt now or leave a scar later.

Coconut Oil and Managing Your Weight

I had no idea how powerful coconut oil can be in managing your weight. Did you know that coconut oil is the largest form of medium chain fatty acids (after breast milk, of course)? Did you also know that MCFA -- like those in coconut oil promote a process called thermogenesis that helps your body create energy by burning fat.

Most oils that we consume (i.e. vegetable oil) are made up of long chain fatty acids which actually encourage your body to store fat. Think of this: animals are fed vegetable oil to put on weight (which makes them valuable for human consumption). When animals are fed coconut oil, they become very lean. There have been studies proving this very fact.

I feed my pets coconut oil and it not only helps to stabilize their weight but it also helps them get a beautifully, shiny coat.

Obviously, since most of us would like to lose weight we want to burn fat rather than store fat. That's why coconut oil can be really important in weight loss. Just a few tablespoons added to your food everyday can really make a dramatic difference in your body.

Coconut Oil -- Does coconut milk serve the same function?

Absolutely! Because coconut milk has a lot of the same fats as coconut oil, coconut milk has many of the same benefits. This is particularly interesting for people who just can not take the thought of actually drinking coconut oiloil. Here are some of the benefits of coconut milk (again, much like coconut oil):

- it is a dairy-free milk for those of us who are lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy or do not wish to eat dairy (this is important as a shocking 60% of all food allergies are to either milk or nuts)
- if you are one of the many that are allergic to milk or nuts, you will more than likely not experience an allergy to coconuts
- coconut oil or milk can actually help alleviate allergic reactions and symptons as coconut oil/milk helps to balance out your body when it comes to the environment of your intestines
- coconut milk has many of the same benefits of regular milk, however, you have the added benefit of coconuts to help heal

Eat drink and be merry -- all coconut products including coconut milk! Your body will thank you!!

The power of coconut oil!

I have been pretty religious about taking in coconut oil daily. I usually have it in the morning with either my oatmeal or my protein shakes (who knew coconut oil could be so fabulous in the breakfast foods)!

Yesterday I was pleased to notice that for the first time in a while, I had a bowel movement three times -- just like you are supposed to after each meal. Wow! I continually forget the power of coconut oil and how it encourages your body to complete its regular processes. I am so excited about this most recent find as I know that we store several days of waste in our bodies which simply can't be good. The fact that there is something out there created naturally to alleviate this process (my favorite new health food - coconut oil), is very exciting.

I am such a huge fan of coconut oil, if for this evacuation reason alone. Your body deserves it!
