Coconut oil and infections...

I found some interesting information today about coconut oil. As you know, coconut oil is composed of fatty acids -- some of which have:

- antibacterial
- antimicrobial and
- antiviral

properties. Coconut oil also has some immune-system stimulating effects which means it may actually help protect you as your body is fighting off infections. Pretty amazing, huh?

I wonder if this also means coconut oil has certain benefits for those who have autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (see www.mylifewithms.com). I need to investigate this further. I do know that saturated fat (the fat found in coconut oil) is of a certain food category that further "inflames" already inflammatory conditions such as multiple sclerosis and heart disease. This definitely bears more investigation.

Comments:
Hello,

Just found your blog regarding coconut oil. I've just started taking it but was a bit concerned because I've read conflicting info about coconut oil and high blood pressure. Do you have any info on this?

Thanks,
Mike
