Coconut Oil and Diabetes

Believe it! Coconut oil can even help with diabetes.

Diabetes is a big problem for our current population so it is a big deal that something like coconut oil can help. It is believed that nearly half of the people living in the U.S. could develop diabetes. Diabetes is the sixth largest cause of death in the U.S. and therefore, of growing concern. Diabetes can also lead to a whole host of other problematic diseases -- heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.

The populations of many Pacific islands eat a traditional diet that includes coconut and coconut oil. Interestingly enough, they do not suffer from diabetes in the way Western civilization does.

So how can coconut oil help? Consumption of coconut oil helps level out blood sugar. Coconut oil also provides much needed energy to the cells because it is composed of medium chain fatty acids (versus long chain fatty acids as with other saturated fats).

Just another reason that coconut oil should be in your cupboard!
